Simmering creativity at SLUSH in Helsinki
Business Iceland led and organized a large delegation to the start-up and tech conference SLUSH in Helsinki on November 17 and 18.
Icelandic companies made a strong showing at the start-up and tech conference SLUSH in Helsinki on 17-18th November. Business Iceland led and organized a large delegation to the event in collaboration with the Embassy of Iceland in Helsinki and Iceland Innovation Week.
SLUSH is the largest not-for-profit movement to create and nurture the next generation of groundbreaking entrepreneurs in Europe. Creativity and original thinking reign strong here. SLUSH is the ideal platform for entrepreneurs to gain inspiration and learn about innovations across technology sectors.
There was a record number of participants from Iceland this year. Representatives from 65 start-up companies and investors attended the conference. The Icelandic delegation attracted attention not only because of the sheer number of participants but also because of its diversity. The companies represented many mature and evolving Icelandic companies. Including ed-tech and gaming, AI, machine learning, Fin-Tech, and cybersecurity to ensure power efficiency, reduce food miles, disrupt banking, providing diversity and biosafety through genetic technology.
For many participating companies, it was their first post-Covid event, and SLUSH was a welcome opportunity to meet face-to-face—with some having up to 20 meetings over the day. Despite the long day of meetings, attendees still made time for a Finnish sauna, sang karaoke, and participated in other events organized by Slush and other partners.
Iceland offered two side events, Breaking the Ice and Get to Snow Us, held at the residence of the Icelandic embassy in Helsinki and the conference hall, respectively. Both events were packed and were an opportune time for the companies to connect with other entrepreneurs and investors, exchange ideas, and build future networks.
