Export Award to Icelandic Farm Holidays

Kristinn Sigmundsson, opera singer, was presented an Honorary award in recognition of outstanding contribution to enhancing the reputation of Iceland.

Kristinn has subsequently performed in many of the leading European and US opera houses and concert halls. He now regularly sings at the Metropolitan Opera, Covent Garden, L'Opéra de Paris, Staatsoper Vienna, Staatsoper Munich and Semperoper Dresden.

The President of Iceland Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, awarded Icelandic Farm Holidays with the Export Award of 2011, on Monday May 16th. Sævar Skaptason, the managing director of Icelandic Farm Holidays, accepted the award on the company‘s behalf at a formal ceremony at Bessastaðir, the president‘s residence. The award is a sculpture of glass made by the artist Inga Elin.

President of Iceland’s Award for Export Achievement
Launched in 1989, the President of Iceland’s Award for Export Achievement is a prestigious honour conferred annually on companies or individuals considered by the award committee to have made a substantial contribution towards promoting and stimulating Icelandic exports. Factors taken into consideration when the recipient is chosen include the value of exports, the share of exports in total sales and expansion into new markets. Presented under the auspices of Promote Iceland, the award consists of a work of art created specially by one of the country’s leading artists and the right to use the export award logo for the next five years.
